Engaged!
One of the most important blogs of my life, and I’m going to attempt to make it short and sweet…
A week ago Friday night Chuck and I were having a quiet night around home enjoying a few drinks and chatting, when he told me all of a sudden that he could not wait until a year on his birthday to propose to me and he asked, “How would you like to be Mrs. Vail?” Of course I said yes, and I cried a little. Mostly I was too shocked taking it all in. He wanted me to be able to pick out my own ring so on a week ago Sunday we went ring shopping. The task was a lot harder than I thought. After trying on maybe 30 rings I found one I loved! I was also really proud because they gave us a killer sale. It was a $2,500 ring and they gave it too us for $750. They also talked us into getting Chuck’s ring and his was an $800 ring that we got for $250. There are benefits to a bad economy my friend. Both of our rings are white gold. Chuck’s has four diamonds making a diagonal across. Mine has a 3/4 carat round cut diamond. (First I was looking at the princess cut, then I decided I liked the round cut better.) It has smaller diamonds on the side, and then the wedding band that goes with it has a whole row of small diamonds. I’ll take pics…
I called my parents and told them right away and they are estatic! I was really surprised how happy they are. The rest of my immediate family, I wanted to be able to show them the ring before I told them. So for the last week and a half I have had a hard time keeping my mouth shut. Especially on Facebook. (Grandpa and Grandma have a Facebook now, lol.) We were suppose to get the rings in last night. Chuck’s ring came in, but not mine. Go figure. I cracked and Chuck and I had a late night out telling my Grandpa and Grandma, my Grandma Dee and my Aunt Jodi the news. Everyone was really happy for us. Tonight we are having my brothers and Joni over for hamburgers and we will tell them then.
My mind has been swimming with excitement and details the past week and a half. We are going to have a really simple wedding. We are going to get married on a beach next to the ocean in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina! Anyone is welcome to come, but we know with the prices of plane tickets it will mostly just be our closest loved ones. We are looking at the date of April 29th, 2010. That falls on a Thursday, but I figured things would be less booked up, and anyone coming to see the wedding would be missing work for it anyway, so it should not matter what day of the week we get married on. We won’t do a reception or anything. Chuck and I simply don’t want the stresses of a large wedding. We want it to be a special day between the two of us, and the ocean was one of the most special things we could think of.
I’ll keep you posted as details come up. That sums it all up though, and I did really good keeping it short and simple. Tomorrow Chuck and I are taking off for Missouri to visit my parents for a quick weekend trip. We will get home on Sunday. I’m excited it’s been almost a year since I’ve been back home to Missouri. I hope my ring comes in before we leave tomorrow too so I can show my parents, but it’s hard to say. TTYL.

Awww Congratulations! Secrets are tough to hold in especially when you want to shout them to the world. Great deal on those rings!!!!
Kristen, I am so happy for you and if i had my choice to do it all again I would choose to have the smaller number of people and spend the money on the place and things I wanted for the wedding rather than all the food and invitations. I had pictured an intimate ceremony at a winery and a fabulous dinner afterward, but brian doesn’t have much family and wanted all of his friends to join in. Sadly we will not be able to the ceremony, but I wish you the best and if you ever want advice I have tons to give!
love and congratulations
Carrie
